Each space shuttle has 4 main landing gear tires. These main landing gear tires are designed to be as light as possible yet capable of landing at a speed of 263 miles per hour safely. These tires are inflated with nitrogen to 340 pounds per square inch. Main landing gear tires are only used one time. Main tire dimensions: 44.5×16.0-21, 34 ply.
